Marketing for Sporting Events
In the 2006 season the Orlando Magic NBA basketball team
used the Text Messaging Live system to keep fans engaged during
Magic Live Friday Night games. The SMS phone number was shown
with a voting question and answers via a custom layout on the
Magic Live screen. The layout encouraged the crowd to call in
their votes during 4 different sessions before and during the
game. Fans who sent an SMS text message to cast a vote received
response messages. These response messages offered voters a chance
to receive a free ticket with the purchase of any ticket plan,
a discount on the purchase or retail items at the game, and much
more. At one game voters were put in a drawing to receive a free
autographed jersey. Chat sessions were also used before and during
games to keep fans entertained.
