The
Interactive Messaging Unlimited software is perfect for concerts,
to allow fans a new way to interact with the stars and
with each other. At performances by Clay Aiken, Anastacia
and other pop idols, the IMU text messaging program
is used to display SMS text messages on giant TV screens
onstage.
This
use of SMS text messaging proved very successful. According
to a Reuters article quoting one concert promoter,
"Fans
loved the concept and
were sending multiple text messages to our stage front
screens in an effort to see their names, talk to their
friends, tell Anastacia how much they love her and
win prizes. Fans were so excited about it that marriage
proposals were proffered onscreen.”
At
the Anastacia concerts, the use of IMU was also
a profit-maker. The promoter estimated that "thousands" of
SMS text messages were displayed at each concert. The promoters
decided to charge one euro (about US$1.26) to send a message;
about 10 percent of the audience sent messages.
Two-way
interaction with reply messages
In
addition to displaying incoming SMS text messages, concert
organizers can also send reply text messages. These can provide
special offers, access to text news about the artist, and
other ways the artist can benefit and interact with their
fans. This type of interactive marketing can help boost concert
attendance, and sales of albums and tour merchandise.
